Staff Association Scholarship Award

The UC San Diego Staff Association scholarship program supports career advancement efforts by providing an opportunity to be reimbursed up to a maximum of $500.00 for any career employee.

Scholarship Overview  

The Staff Association scholarship program is open to all UC San Diego Career employees who are interested in advancing their career. The scholarship can be used toward a professional development activity which requires a fee.

Professional development activities could include, but are not limited to:

  • Educational seminars, workshops, or conferences registration fees
  • Course work for professional development



  1. Complete the UC San Diego Staff Association Scholarship Award application, which includes questions on career advancement objectives:
    • How did or will this course/seminar/conference assist you in enhancing your current job skills for advancement opportunities or career change within the university system?
    • What additional development activities/endeavors have you undertaken or intend to take as pertinent to your education and/or professional goals?
    • Describe your personal need and how the scholarship funds will help you meet the goals outlined.
  2. Submit a current resume.
  3. Provide confirmation of course/seminar/conference completion no later than June 3, 2024.
  4. Provide proof of individual payment. Reimbursement is not available to second party, departments, or other individuals. Professional development opportunities that receive funding approval from departments and/or UC San Diego are not eligible to receive scholarship funds.

Any awardee unable to meet these qualifications will forfeit their scholarship.

Timeline and Process for 2024

The UC San Diego Staff Association Scholarship Review Committee will review each application. The committee will award scholarships to those who clearly show how the proposed training will create career advancement opportunities or meet career advancement goals.

  • Timeframe of consideration is July 3, 2023 – June 3, 2024. Professional development must be completed, and confirmation of completion received, prior to June 3, 2024 to qualify.
  • Applications will be accepted January 1 – March 15, 2024.
  • Award winners will be notified by April 15, 2024. 
  • Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) or more recipients, depending on available funding.
  • One (1) scholarship will be awarded per person, unless funds available exceed applications.
  • Funds will be sent by direct deposit or check after confirmation of payment and completion is provided (no later than June 3, 2024 to qualify). If awardee is unable to provide confirmation, then the scholarship will be forfeited.
