Roberta Camarena

Biography

Roberta Camarena (she/her/ella) serves as the Immediate Past Chair of the Staff Association and is the Director of Campus Local Government & Community Relations in the Office of the Chancellor.

A proud Triton and passionate advocate for her alma mater, Roberta’s natural inclination toward volunteerism has inspired her long-standing service to the university. When nominated for the Chair-Elect position, she embraced the opportunity without hesitation, eager to give back to the campus that has shaped her life and to cultivate the same sense of belonging for others.

With 15 years of dedicated service to UC San Diego, Roberta continues to champion initiatives that enhance campus life for staff, students, and alumni alike. She is especially looking forward to the opening of the new Alumni Space in the Triton Center in 2026. A vibrant gateway to campus she envisions as a welcoming hub for all Tritons to connect, inspire, and leave their mark. Roberta holds a Masters in Higher Education Administration from United States University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego.

Beyond her professional and volunteer commitments, Roberta treasures time spent with family, friends, and the Triton community. Her advice to new staff is simple yet impact:

“Get plugged into UC San Diego. Make this experience more than a job.”

 

  1. Serving as an advisor to the Officers and Executive Board.
  2. Serving as liaison to ex-officio board members.
  3. Serving as a substitute UC San Diego representative to CUCSA.
  4. Completing goals from previous year in partnership with the current Chair.
